MORE
THAN 30 ALASKAN SUBARU OWNERS braved the elements for a BBQ at the Eklutna Lake
Campground (30 minutes north of Anchorage) on August 19-20, 2006 despite the cold,
rain, wind, dense fog, and a small family of bears. Sponsored by Continental Subaru,
Specialized Import Auto Service, Simpatico, Clearwire, and the Alaska Trucking Association,
the event featured giveaways (some donated by Subaru of America, Inc.), vehicle
displays, a night of camping, and a Subaru convoy back to Anchorage.
THE
WICKED BIG MEET (WBM) Web site accurately observes that the event is “All
Subaru. All day long. All kinds of fun.”
A rumbling, unending stream of Subaru vehicles paraded into the Nashoba Valley Ski Area in Westford, Massachusetts, on May 20, 2006 – more than 1,000 attendees in more than 700 Subaru vehicles.
WBM managed to squeeze into a few hours of sunshine around the floods of May. Attendees were served more than 500 lunches and won more than $12,000 worth of prizes in a raffle. They shopped the vendors’ tents and booths, chatted about cars, listened to music, and generally hung out.
Subaru Rally Team USA brought Travis Pastrana’s rally race car and Ken Block’s One Lap of America entry, and ICY Racing/Phoenix Performance had on hand its new Legacy 2.5 GT Wagon race car built for the Grand-Am Cup Series. The 36 vendors/sponsors on the grounds included Subaru of New England. The New England Subaru Club Inc. hosted WBM.
