red Subaru WRX

Hooked by a video of Carlos Sainz racing in the WRC, I currently race in the New England Region SCCA RallyCross series – the easiest and safest way to feed my addiction for rally. I’ve been involved for almost six years.

My nice, cute little red Subaru WRX – which delivers me to work and gets my son to day care – once a month or so becomes a raging rally monster. Put a set of 15" rally wheels and KUMHO gravel tires on this thing and its evil alter ego comes out. When those gravel tires bite into the dirt on a hard launch, you’d better be strapped in because you’re going to feel as though you were being launched from an aircraft carrier.

I’ve finished in the top three in New England RallyCross for three out of the last four years. Recently, my local dealership, Burlington Subaru in Burlington, Vermont, agreed to sponsor me in the series for 2006.

Why do I race this brand-spankin’- new WRX on the dirt and treat it so? Because I love my car!

arrows GROUP DRIVE

www.subarutunersofmaine.com

My coworker (Vinnie Martorano) at Patriot Subaru and I created www.subarutunersofmaine.com. While we are a new group (less than one year old), we still have over 50 members and are growing rapidly.

In partnership with the dealership, we organized a group drive. It will be the first of many. We had a blast. Everyone had a two-way radio, and we drove up Mount Washington in New Hampshire. It was eight miles up the mountain and over 6,500 feet above sea level. You could see over 120 miles. We found some of the craziest roads we have ever been on, and these cars never missed a step.

Next, we are going to try to connect with some of our Canadian counterparts.

These truly are the best cars in the world. They’re the total package.
