Although not as publicized as the Le Mans or Daytona 24-hour events, the Nürburgring 24-hour race has the same result – it tests the mettle of the cars and the teams. Just to finish is to win!
In this year’s event, a Subaru Impreza WRX STi finished second in class and 14th overall. The team of drivers included Kazuo Shimizu, Hirotoshi Yoshida, Nakahava Kawasaki, Fribourg Sato Kumi and Subaru World Rally Team driver Stéphane Sarrazin. The team made 124 laps of the 15.5-mile winding road course in terrible weather with Provo Racing Division car 67 – that’s more than 1,900 miles – at an average speed in excess of 80 miles per hour.
The Provo car was better suited to the bad weather than most, with its Symmetrical AWD handling the heavy rains and hailstorms that hit the track during the race.
There’s still time! You, too, can learn your limits.
