Subaru of Dallas has a twofold purpose in sending WRX and WRX STi customers to Texas Motor Speedway for a “Fast Lap Day.” First, under the guidance of Panoz Racing School instructors, new owners of these high-performance cars will receive classroom and behind-the-wheel training in how to handle the power that these cars develop. This type of training is invaluable to performancecar owners, whether that person is a novice or a veteran driver. Second, the new Subaru owners will experience the capabilities of the cars that they just purchased.
Racing school takes a full day, with four 30-minute driving sessions and two classroom instruction sessions. According to David Thomas, President of Subaru of Dallas: “Our goal is to provide a great car, great service and add value by providing professional instruction! Safety and skills for our drivers are paramount.”
Using the new performance version of the Subaru MasterCard earns rewards that can be used to purchase parts and services from your Subaru dealer. It’s a great way to save for the performance parts you want!

Subaru owners were invited to compete in last year’s regional Subaru Challenge autocross events, with winners in each of a number of categories.
An autocross is a timed competition on a closed course. Each car participates individually and in an assigned class, which is based on the vehicle itself, modifications to the vehicle and the experience level of the driver. Also, a good autocross event will mandate the use of safety equipment such as seatbelts and helmets while on course.
Events usually take place on large, paved areas with the course marked by directional cones to indicate the corners and boundaries. Each car is timed on the course, and additional time is added to a car’s total for cones that are knocked down during the run.
The winner of an autocross competition doesn’t necessarily drive the vehicle with the highest horsepower. More often, the winner is the most consistent in his or her runs. Winning is all about making clean runs with the fastest possible line through the course.
The course might look simple and not seem like much of a challenge. After all, it’s just a few cones on a parking lot. Once you get underway, though, things happen quickly. What looked like a snap at a walk becomes real interesting at 35 miles per hour.
Experiencing quick maneuvers on a course can teach you how to be a better driver by understanding the capabilities of your vehicle and of yourself. It’s a fun, safe way to learn about your car’s handling and balance.

Think you’re a good driver?
Prove it! With results measured in the thousandths of a second, autocrossing is
a true indication of how you stand as a driver. Autocrossing tests the laws of physics,
car ability and driving skill. It’s all about controlling the car during sudden
and abrupt changes in driver input.
Adrenaline flows as your eyes scan
the cones and hands
tightly grip the wheel. Feedback from the car comes from tires fighting to retain
traction – both directionally and laterally. Your entire body feels how the
car reacts to inputs through the throttle, brake and steering wheel.
Drivers who can cover the least amount of ground the fastest are rewarded with low times and a swelling of pride, knowing that they’ve driven to the best of their ability. This is competition and driving pleasure at its fullest.
